Week Seven: Target Audience

My Target Audience

The intended audience would be young individuals, especially those from the GenZ generation, newly married couples, and adventure seekers who enjoy outdoor activities.

I am working on a significant project that focuses on a modern treehouse. The primary target audience for this project is people who love nature, adventure, and outdoor activities such as hiking, rock climbing and mountain biking. The concept of a modern treehouse is new and unique, so it is expected to attract young individuals looking for something exciting and unconventional. This project is perfect for those who want to step out of their comfort zone, explore their limits, or transform their discomfort into comfort.

Stats of marriage in Malaysia

(Higher number of marriages, fewer divorces recorded in 2021, Malay Mail)

The statistics indicate that the percentage of married couples in Malaysia is rising. This implies that these couples seek a suitable home to raise their families. A spacious tree house can be a good starting point. It has been observed that children who are exposed to nature tend to be more active and productive in the long run.

Playing outside provides numerous benefits for children, including developing self-confidence, independence, and self-esteem. Through outdoor play, children learn about boundaries, limits, and challenges, which can help them grow and mature. Additionally, outdoor play allows children to experience a sense of freedom. It provides a natural way to engage in physical activity, essential for their health and well-being. Being active through play burns energy and can help prevent illness in adulthood. (Playing outdoors (2022) indirect)

Being outdoors supports confidence and allows opportunities for big-scale play, problem-solving and creativity in the company of other children. Physical activity is enhanced. So is calculated risk-taking. In the outdoors, children’s use of language is five times greater than indoors.

Stats for outdoor activities

Since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, younger people have been more likely than those aged 70 and over to take up new outdoor activities.

The Central Statistics Office (CSO) ’s Our Lives Outdoors survey, published on Wednesday, examined how the health emergency recast peoples’ relationship with the great outdoors. The survey was conducted online between April 22nd and May 9th, with 9,346 respondents. (Bowers, S. (2022), The Irish Times)

Since the pandemic, over 40% of individuals aged 18-34 have taken up new outdoor activities, while only 13% of individuals aged 70 and above have.

With this being evaluated. My project’s target audience is newly married couples and people who love the outdoors.

Research on the National Flower Of United Arab Emirates

For this post, I will share my research about the national flower of The United Arab Emirates, the Tribulus Omannense. I will create a boutique hotel in Jumeirah Village Circle, Dubai, for my project. I will symbolise the country with the nation's flower, Tribulus Omannense. Since a boutique hotel is targeted at travellers, the concept of my hotel is inspired by the flower. Tribulus Omanense is a small flowering plant in the Zygophyllaceae family. Its delicate, yellow flowers have five petals and a distinct, spiky appearance (Anne, A. 2023). The flower is suitable for creating a hotel because of its simplicity, and it is easy to divide the rooms for the hotel. Since it has five petals, I made each petal a section for the hotel, for example, a lobby section and the rest of the rooms for each petal. Each petal will be enough to fit two hotel rooms. Although the number of rooms in my boutique hotel will be small, this will ensure a more personalised service to the customers, and the h...

Week Six: Technical Research and Beginning Digital Work

Site Plan Analysis Geology, soil typology, vegetation, hydrography. During my site plan analysis, I will research the soil and geology of Sarawak, Malaysia, where I will be designing my project. There, the predominant soil is the podzol – a leached soil composed of pale-coloured sands with accumulations beneath the surface (re-deposits) of the surface humus (decayed organic matter) and iron. Such soils may have accumulated on old river alluvium or coarse-textured sandstone rocks and thus are usually well-drained. ( Sarawak's soil system  (2015) ) The total peatland area of Sarawak is estimated to be about 1,657,600 hectares, representing 13% of the whole land area. Many of the peat swamp forests (PSF) have been harvested or transformed into agricultural lands and settlements along the coastal areas of Sarawak's lowland plains. Owing to the rapid transformation of the PSF, there has been increased attention on conserving some of what is left for biodiversity, water resources, r...

3D Outcome process

In this post, I will share the process of creating my 3D Outcome. First, I sketch the boutique hotel to better understand the project's shape (as seen below). Then, I cut out templates for each wall separately to precisely glue them together according to the dimensions. I used wood boards that were 4mm thick so that it was easy to glue them together. After cutting the templates, I went to the wood workshop to begin cutting each piece of the walls. As seen below, I sand the edge of the walls so that when glued together, the edge of the wood will not be visible, and it will have a smooth and uniform surface for all parts of the walls. After I had all the pieces for the 3D outcome, I started to paint them together. When deciding on the colour palette for the boutique hotel, I went for black and grey since it gives off an aesthetic feeling and blends with the buildings around it. Before using black and grey colours, I thought of using grey for the walls and yellow for the roof. This is...
