Term Reflection (Edited)

This post will reflect on the term's project and my experiences. During this term, I have been exposed to more architectural work, which has built my personality and momentum to continue towards the next term. The experiences will be valuable and memorable as they contain all my hard work and dedication to complete this term's project. As far as it goes, I have faced difficulties such as catching up with my studies and maintaining a healthy mindset to stay caught up on something I put my hard work into. I learned new ways of using software such as Adobe Photoshop and Pixlr. I also learned to manage my time correctly to complete the project before the deadline. Ways to take good photos, and how to use different materials such as wood and plastic, and used them in my own project to create a final outcome. Although I was not entirely satisfied with my outcomes, because of this, I would keep in mind that I should manage time more efficiently in the future. Unfortunately, I have not...

Website Update (Edited)

In this post, I will share the changes I have made to my website. I have changed my website's front page, name, and navigation buttons. First, I changed the main image of some of my work to personalise the website and make it more relevant to my projects. This includes the pictures of the 3D outcome of my latest project. I have also changed the colours of the website's name from black to white. It is now easier to read the website's name than before. I have also shortened the name of the website to keep it simple. Then, I added a new page for my latest project, Tribulus Hotel. This page contains information about the project. I designed the page to be simple and not complicated for the readers. I used an orange background, as orange is the primary colour of my website. I added a short commentary about the project and the title at the top. Lastly, I added a gallery page to showcase my work on this project, such as the dimensions and sketches. I have used a gallery template t...

Location Research: Jumeirah Village Circle

In this post, I will be researching the location for my project.  I have chosen Dubai as the location for the boutique hotel because although it is still a developing country, it is already filled with tourists and travellers all year round. Because of this, a boutique hotel will be suitable for anyone who wants to stay in Dubai for a short period and still enjoy personal service throughout their stay. After researching multiple locations in Dubai, I found that The Jumeirah Village Circle is the most suitable location for its flat and empty lands, and it acts as a focal point for tourists because it is near a shopping district, shopping mall, and beach. The Jumeirah Village Circle is a luxurious and friendly area for tourists to stay and explore ( Home Sweet Home Real Estate Dubai, 2023) . To be more specific, as seen below, this is the location where I have decided to execute the project. It is an empty and flat land and a newly constructed area. It will be a populated area in the...

Final 3D Outcome

In this post, I will share the final 3D Outcome.  Fortunately, I encountered no problems while creating the 3D outcome, and everything went smoothly. The model's exterior is made of various materials, such as plastic trees, which I used for bushes and trees, small stones, and sugar paper, which I used for the pathway outside the Boutique Hotel. I am satisfied with the outcome. However, the plastic that I used for the roof of the central section of the hotel needs to be cleaned. This is because it has paint stains and dusk under it. I did not clean the plastic before glued it to the roof. Other than that, everything went according to my plan.

2D Outcomes (Edited)

In this post, I will share the 2D outcomes I created for my portfolio. All of this is hand-made using a pencil on A3 Paper, then a light board and an ink pen to enhance the lines of the Sketch on a new sheet of A3 paper. I have created 5 outcomes, as seen below. For the elevations, I noticed that side elevations and front elevations would look similar, so I decided to make only one elevation. Floor Plans These are the floor plans for my boutique hotel. The first-floor plan is the reception and the hotel restaurant. I first made the lobby area with a curved reception counter. Behind it is the restaurant, rooms for the office, and the restrooms for the guests. There will also be a kitchen area inside the restaurant. At the sides, I have made hallways towards the main lift to different floors and also the centre section. The centre section of the boutique hotel is the pistil of the flower. This is a small garden area. The purpose of this area is to add an esthetic and comfortable area for...

Planning on 3D outcome (Prototype)

For this post, I will share the plan for my 3D outcome. Before I start to make any decisions for my project, I need to have a better visual understanding of my own project. Hence, I started to make a prototype of what the final 3D outcome will look like. I used cardboard and acetate to create the prototype. I first used the dimensions I had calculated and cut pieces of cardboard according to the measurements. As seen below, this is the outcome of the prototype. I encountered a few problems while making this prototype. This includes the edges of the walls being visible and the wall's surfaces not being smooth. In addition, the measurements of the pieces need to be corrected. Therefore, I will need to be more precise in measuring the pieces and cutting out templates before cutting the wood I will use for the project. This will save time and avoid waste of materials if there are errors during the execution of the final 3D outcome. Next, I will sand the edges of the walls so that they ...

3D Outcome process

In this post, I will share the process of creating my 3D Outcome. First, I sketch the boutique hotel to better understand the project's shape (as seen below). Then, I cut out templates for each wall separately to precisely glue them together according to the dimensions. I used wood boards that were 4mm thick so that it was easy to glue them together. After cutting the templates, I went to the wood workshop to begin cutting each piece of the walls. As seen below, I sand the edge of the walls so that when glued together, the edge of the wood will not be visible, and it will have a smooth and uniform surface for all parts of the walls. After I had all the pieces for the 3D outcome, I started to paint them together. When deciding on the colour palette for the boutique hotel, I went for black and grey since it gives off an aesthetic feeling and blends with the buildings around it. Before using black and grey colours, I thought of using grey for the walls and yellow for the roof. This is...

Planning Of 3D Outcome

For this post, I share my plan for the 3D Outcome of my project. First, I needed to research the dimensions of a standard boutique hotel. The average size of a hotel room in Europe is 172 square feet, 16 square metres (Elphick, 2023). With this, I can decide how big one of my boutique hotel rooms will be. From my past blog about the national flower of the United Arab Emirates, one petal can fit two hotel rooms. As seen below, it is 3.70 metres from wall D, the balcony of the hotel rooms. Using a scale of 1:50 Centimetres, wall D is 7.40 cm long. I used the scale to measure all of my walls to achieve the dimensions for my 3D outcome. Wall A Real:  2.5 Metres / 250 centimetres Scale: 5 Centimetres Wall B Real: 3.9 Metres / 390 centimetres Scale: 7.8 Centimetres Wall C Real: 4 Metres / 400 centimetres Scale: 8 Centimetres Wall D Real: 3.7 Metres / 370 Centimetres Scale: 7.4 Centimetres After deciding the dimensions I will use, I must determine the best materials to create the 3D Outco...

Research on boutique hotel (Edited)

This post will be about my research on boutique hotels. The simplest definition of a boutique hotel is “a small, sophisticated, and fashionable business or establishment“. (Giulietta, 2024) Boutique hotels are mainly for people who travel for a short time and want a personalised experience during their stay. The boutique hotel interests me because of its size and the difference in experience compared to a typical hotel. The main reason behind this is that boutique hotels have better quality control, ensuring the guest experiences a comfortable stay. The attention to detail in these hotels' design makes them unique. Boutique hotels are usually made to be one-of-a-kind (WOOLF, 2023) and with that being stylish and trendy. Their designs are more towards elegance and luxury, but the prices are still reasonable. This is suitable for my project as the location for it is in Dubai. A developing country where there are a lot of travellers and tourists passing through. Also, Dubai is known f...

Research on the National Flower Of United Arab Emirates

For this post, I will share my research about the national flower of The United Arab Emirates, the Tribulus Omannense. I will create a boutique hotel in Jumeirah Village Circle, Dubai, for my project. I will symbolise the country with the nation's flower, Tribulus Omannense. Since a boutique hotel is targeted at travellers, the concept of my hotel is inspired by the flower. Tribulus Omanense is a small flowering plant in the Zygophyllaceae family. Its delicate, yellow flowers have five petals and a distinct, spiky appearance (Anne, A. 2023). The flower is suitable for creating a hotel because of its simplicity, and it is easy to divide the rooms for the hotel. Since it has five petals, I made each petal a section for the hotel, for example, a lobby section and the rest of the rooms for each petal. Each petal will be enough to fit two hotel rooms. Although the number of rooms in my boutique hotel will be small, this will ensure a more personalised service to the customers, and the h...

Project Sign Off

In this post, I will be posting my Project sign-link. During this week's session, I met with my tutor to discuss what I would do for my AP1 project. This includes my research, concept sketches and materials to complete my 3D outcomes . Project sign-off link After the meeting with my tutor, I will start the research I need to better understand how to execute my project.

Initial Ideas generation (Crazy Eight)

This post is about the task "Crazy Eight" that our tutor has given us. The instructions were to create drawings based on the themes provided. I chose the Primitive theme. Each drawing needs to be finished in under two minutes. Starting from the first drawing on the top left, a house with a thatch roof is shown. When I think of a primitive house, the first thing that pops up is a wooden house with a thatch roof. These materials can all be found in the wild, making sourcing them easy. Although the house is not robust compared to other materials, such as stone or cement, it can withstand various elements, such as rain and wind. The design of the house is simple, and some people find it esthetic. This goes the same with drawing 2.  The difference between them is the materials for the walls. I change the material to see what will it look like from the outside. The walls of drawing 2 are made out of stone. This will make the house more robust, and I also changed the shape of the h...

Developing ideas

We were asked to pick out objects and observe them in multiple ways and perspectives for week two. This was to enhance our ideas critically and creatively for our project. Then, work with chosen objects and draw various ways to include them in our project. I choose the object above because of its attractive shape. The object is a wooden nutcracker. I did not know this before, and it reminds me of a hut from the move Smurfs. I then drew multiple ways that the object can be. Some examples are a Tank from the 1800s or a bottle that contains some sort of liquid. The object has smooth and curved surfaces, with a screwable part at the top of it. This object also reminds me of a mushroom. When I looked at my object, I saw it could be used as an entrance or a balcony for my project. Furthermore, The texture of my project can be smooth and curvy, inspired by the Nutcracker. This object also reminds me of The Metropol Parasol, Seville, a city in Spain. The structure's design is known locally...
