First Thoughts
Primitive: Primitive is a significant period in human history characterized by early human societies. (Kennedy, L., 2019) Within the context of architecture, primitive architecture refers to structures built during the Stone Age. At that time, humans had not yet discovered stronger building materials and had to rely on resources such as branches, leaves, and rocks. Typically, humans would live in caves to protect themselves from harsh weather and wild animals. During that period, humans used large rocks as furniture, such as tables, beds, and chairs.Since ancient times, humans have been using raw materials to construct different structures. As a result, these structures exhibit a variety of textures on their surfaces, ranging from smooth to rough. Moreover, the architecture of these structures comes in unique shapes, including organic and inorganic shapes. This specific style of architecture has caught my interest as it reminds me of the work of Zaha Hadid. If I were to build a structure using this style of architecture, I would consider designing a simple yet elegant getaway house.
Pop Art: Pop art is an art movement that originated in the 1950s and became popular in the 1960s in America and Britain. The movement drew inspiration from sources in popular and commercial culture. During the 1960s and 70s, different countries and cultures contributed to the development of the movement. (Tate, 2023) Nowadays, pop-art style architecture is used to capture people's attention, whether from up close or far away. This approach has proved to be an effective way of marketing. Pop art is an amazing way to express architectural design in a colourful and unique manner.
Pop art is renowned for its vibrant colours that grab people's attention from a distance. This makes it an excellent marketing tool and a way to attract more tourists to visit a country. Pop art can be used to attract tourists from all over the world, such as The Pop Art Mural by SEN2 in Getafe, Spain. However some people may find this style of art intimidating, but it can certainly brighten up city streets with its colourful designs. Personally, I would build a restaurant using this theme of architecture. This will not only attract customers to come to the restaurant, but also act as a strong identity of the restaurant and also show the restaurant's theme.
Industrial: Industrial architecture refers to the design and construction of buildings that cater to the needs of the industrial sector. The design of industrial buildings involves various building styles and designs to ensure the safe flow, distribution, and production of goods.(Hohenadel, K., 2023) The primary goal of industrial architecture is to achieve maximum efficiency. In general, industrial designs are simpler and more symmetrical. The materials used in industrial architecture must be strong and sustainable.
This theme of architecture is intriguing because it requires the builder to construct an efficient structure that is also a safe and pleasant place to work. I am particularly fascinated by the materials used to construct such important structures that play a vital role in our society. For instance, the Amazon Facility designed by TYLin in Greece and New York comes to mind, which uses this architectural theme to create a warehouse for storing valuable goods.

A decent enough effort, with some insight to the themes - but you were asked to consider which of the three you were going to use. Add that to this post.
ReplyDeleteIt is now coming into Week 5 - there is little or no evidence of your project so far, no sign off post, no project plan posted and little in the way of sketch development of your project idea. Please start posting your work so you can receive feedback and improve upon what you are doing.
Nick, we are coming into Week 8 and there are still only four posts on your blog for this project. This is highly inadequate - you are going to post the missing work during our first session in Week 8 and update what is so far missing.
