This post is about the task "Crazy Eight" that our tutor has given us. The instructions were to create drawings based on the themes provided. I chose the Primitive theme. Each drawing needs to be finished in under two minutes.
Starting from the first drawing on the top left, a house with a thatch roof is shown. When I think of a primitive house, the first thing that pops up is a wooden house with a thatch roof. These materials can all be found in the wild, making sourcing them easy. Although the house is not robust compared to other materials, such as stone or cement, it can withstand various elements, such as rain and wind. The design of the house is simple, and some people find it esthetic. This goes the same with drawing 2. The difference between them is the materials for the walls. I change the material to see what will it look like from the outside. The walls of drawing 2 are made out of stone. This will make the house more robust, and I also changed the shape of the house. The house in drawing 2 is dome-shaped. This is because during the primitive period, humans usually found shelter in caves. I tried to replicate the shape of a cave entrance into the design of the house in drawing 2. Next is the house in drawing 3. The house's material is the same as the house in drawing 1. However, I changed the shape of the roof into a cone. This is to prevent any water from pilling up on the roof. With a cone-shaped roof, rainwater can quickly drop from the roof to the ground. This ensures there are no leaks from the roof of the house. Next is the fourth drawing, I imagined a small tribe gathered around a campfire. The houses that they made were small and simple to save materials and ensure every member of the tribe had a house.
Next, is the fifth drawing. The fitfh drawing is a house next to a river. I added a watermill attached to the side of the house to provide energy to the house. With this, the watermill can help the energy in the house is sustainable. Next, is the sixth drawing. I imagine during the primitive period, most of the materials used to build buildings are geometric shaped. People during this period did not know how to use organic materials to build houses. Hence, I drew a skyscraper using multiple different geometric shapes in different height. As for the last two drawings, I was thinking of different patterns that came from surfaces of some primitive materials. Such as stone, wood and the cave's surfaces.
The drawings below are from another session of crazy eight to get more ideas about the Primitive theme.
