Design Board and Materials

In this post, I will share the project's design board.

Above is the Design Board that the Tribulus Omannense will have. Although a modern and minimalist style is the main idea for the hotel, other designs can also be considered for the interior and exterior. The materials for the main entrance, flooring, and interior walls are modern designs, as this is the main style of this hotel. Wooden panels, ceramic tiles, and glass are used in the hotel's interior. The reception, restaurant, and hotel rooms will all have the same style.

As for the exterior, I find using Textured Polish Plaster is most suitable for the primary materials for the walls. The finish can be polished to give a smooth sheen or left more matt with varied textures like the semi-polished and honed finish. More textured finishes like the weathered, floated and raked concrete create more depth within the plaster, replicating the raw industrial look (Surfaceform, 2022). This can be substituted for concrete or bricks. The resilience of concrete makes it suitable for situations in which buildings are likely to come under environmental stress. Bricks are solid and affordable and allow for a lot of flexibility. Stone offers solidity, is suitable for channelling airflow, and has an elegance ideal for some designs. (Admin, 2019)

As for the flooring, ceramic tile is both aesthetically beautiful and durable. Ceramic tile is simple to clean. If one tile is broken, replacing it is a simple task. Although it is among the priciest flooring options, it frequently lasts the longest. Ceramic tiles come in various colours and patterns, making them versatile materials for interior design projects. Although this kind of flooring is inexpensive for many hospitality companies, one criticism is its "coldness" and incapacity to reduce noise. (Mikulski, 2020) Rubber flooring and wooden floors can also be considered replacements.

All of these materials can be sourced locally in Dubai. This is because, despite being a developing country, Dubai has different factories that produce the materials. With this, the cost of shipping the materials to the construction site can be reduced to a minimum.

Research on the National Flower Of United Arab Emirates

For this post, I will share my research about the national flower of The United Arab Emirates, the Tribulus Omannense. I will create a boutique hotel in Jumeirah Village Circle, Dubai, for my project. I will symbolise the country with the nation's flower, Tribulus Omannense. Since a boutique hotel is targeted at travellers, the concept of my hotel is inspired by the flower. Tribulus Omanense is a small flowering plant in the Zygophyllaceae family. Its delicate, yellow flowers have five petals and a distinct, spiky appearance (Anne, A. 2023). The flower is suitable for creating a hotel because of its simplicity, and it is easy to divide the rooms for the hotel. Since it has five petals, I made each petal a section for the hotel, for example, a lobby section and the rest of the rooms for each petal. Each petal will be enough to fit two hotel rooms. Although the number of rooms in my boutique hotel will be small, this will ensure a more personalised service to the customers, and the h...

WEEK SIX: Contacts

This is my contact page where you can reach out to me. I have listed the location of my workplace, which is the Art Factory. As I haven't decided whether to add my phone number or not, I have included a random number for now. You can contact me through my email address, and my website links such as Blogger and Instagram are also provided. This page which contains my contacts is a new page that I did and a button that leads to the page. The image above is a lightbox that I added at the very bottom of all of my pages.

Research on boutique hotel (Edited)

This post will be about my research on boutique hotels. The simplest definition of a boutique hotel is “a small, sophisticated, and fashionable business or establishment“. (Giulietta, 2024) Boutique hotels are mainly for people who travel for a short time and want a personalised experience during their stay. The boutique hotel interests me because of its size and the difference in experience compared to a typical hotel. The main reason behind this is that boutique hotels have better quality control, ensuring the guest experiences a comfortable stay. The attention to detail in these hotels' design makes them unique. Boutique hotels are usually made to be one-of-a-kind (WOOLF, 2023) and with that being stylish and trendy. Their designs are more towards elegance and luxury, but the prices are still reasonable. This is suitable for my project as the location for it is in Dubai. A developing country where there are a lot of travellers and tourists passing through. Also, Dubai is known f...
